“Under Risk Rating 2.0, almost all Louisiana homeowners will face increases to their flood insurance premiums,” said Attorney General Jeff Landry. “Over the next ten years, the working families in our State paying hundreds for flood insurance now could be looking at payments of thousands in the near future; this is unacceptable.”
“Government bureaucrats have disrupted our housing market and jeopardized our economy with their illegal decisions, and we are fighting back,” continued Attorney General Landry. “I look forward to Thursday’s hearing and exposing the federal government’s new plan for the unlawful mess that it is.”
Attorney General Landry and his Solicitor General Liz Murrill are leading a coalition of 10 states, 43 parishes, 12 levee boards, and 2 municipalities in suing the federal government. They note that Risk Rating 2.0 fails to protect the policy holders, reneges on promises, fails to recognize mitigation efforts, imposes unreasonable and unaffordable costs, drives individuals out of insurance pool, fails to recognize statutory obligations, and forces people to leave their communities.
“We are fighting back to ensure that the people of Louisiana are able to stay in our great State - not sell their homes, close their businesses, and migrate away from their families because of government policies that lack of transparency and common sense,” added Attorney General Landry.
