Friend of Missio Alliance,

There has always been a natural transition that takes place within our spiritual formation – seasons of sowing, rooting, watering, growth, harvest, and then finally the long dormancy that takes place over winter.

What is more challenging is when these seasons come upon us with a sudden swiftness that we don’t anticipate – when we sense (hope? desire?) that the Spirit of God is up to something good within our faith communities or Christian leadership, only to have the rug pulled up from under us by a struggle for power, a competing vision, or a scandal that no one wanted.

Perhaps socio-cultural, relational, or economic factors have landed you in an unexpected season – or even shifting theology and values (“Do I still belong to the tribe that I once called home?”) – factors you could never anticipate, and certainly weren’t ‘schooled in’ during seminary.
