[ [link removed] ]CBS News: Experts warn of federal child care funding "cliff" that could
have dire consequences when pandemic support expires

In 2021: Congress made big investments in child care during the pandemic,
allowing parents to head back into the workforce after we saw women leave
the workforce in record numbers.

On September 30th: That funding is set to expire, and if Congress doesn’t
act, an estimated 70,000 child care centers will close.

The result: Millions of parents will likely reduce their hours or leave
jobs altogether, and our economy is slated to lose $10.6 BILLION.

Investing in child care isn’t just good for families. It’s good economic
policy, and I’ve never met a voter who doesn't want a strong, stable,
globally competitive economy. But Republicans are standing in the way of
passing additional funding to keep families afloat and our economy
stable—threatening a government shutdown at the end of the month rather
than investing in programs Americans rely on.

funding child care?

As a single mom of three who knows how tough it can be to find reliable
child care, this issue is also personal. For too long our government
hasn’t invested in child care, allowing child care costs to rise faster
than nearly anything else.

We’re reaching a pivotal moment and I’ll keep fighting for adequate
funding.
