As we at Ameinu look towards the year to come, it is also time to reflect on the year in review. The election of the most right-wing, racist government in Israel’s history compelled us to respond. We organized and participated in rallies in the United States and Israel, including the first protest in front of the consul-general’s office in New York in January, criticized Israel Bonds for hosting Bezalel Smotrich at a dinner in Washington in March, and joined and spoke at weekly protests across the country. In April, our World Zionist Congress delegation led a protest march of over 200 delegates from over 11 countries to the Israel Supreme Court. We also succeeded in passing our center-left resolutions, including criticizing the government and demanding an end to their judicial coup efforts. In June, Ameinu returned to the Israel Day Parade in New York City with over 1,000 marchers wearing t-shirts that said Zionism equals Democracy in Hebrew and Marching for Democracy in English. Our partnership with UnXeptable has increased as the successes of the movement for democracy in Israel and the United States have grown. All the while, we have offered compelling programming, helped lead a campaign to stop the expulsion of Palestinians from their village al-Walaja, re-launched The Third Narrative project updating this valuable resource with responses to far-left critics of Israel, written op-eds in Haaretz and local Jewish papers, and so much more! We are proud to be YOUR PROGRESSIVE VOICE, advocating and engaging on behalf of our members within the organized American Jewish community and in Israel.
Enclosed is a prayer that was written with the support of our friends in UnXeptable. We hope that you will share it with your rabbis, synagogue and congregational leadership, and your friends.
From all of us here at Ameinu, we would like to wish you and your family a happy new year and chag sameach! May 5784 bring health, security, continued democracy, and peace here in the US, in Israel, and around the world. We are grateful to our donors for their generosity, and we hope that we can count on you for continued support in the new year. Your donation supports our vital, ambitious agenda.
