Recently, I had the privilege of speaking to a packed auditorium of high school juniors and seniors at Albert Lea High School. I’ve been traveling around the state to urge 16- and 17-year-olds in MN to pre-register to vote; a new privilege created by a new Minnesota law that I championed.
A critical part of my job as Secretary of State is empowering the next generation to actively participate in our democracy, especially with the 2024 presidential election rapidly approaching. Voting in Minnesota's presidential primary starts in January, and we want all eligible voters to be part of this historic event.
John, I’m energized and excited about the next generation of voters. Yet, there are people out there who are still spreading disinformation. Studies have shown that young people who vote in the first election for which they are eligible are more likely to continue participating in future elections. To them I say your voice matters, and your vote is your power.

That's why we've introduced automatic voter registration for anyone 18 and older who receives or renews their driver's license and is eligible to vote. We're knitting together and coordinating efforts to make sure every eligible voter can exercise their rights.
