John, 29 years ago today, President Clinton signed the federal assault weapons ban into law. But the NRA made sure that this critical ban ended only 10 years later, putting all of us at risk again.

The original Assault Weapons Ban was a truly transformative piece of legislation that took decades to pass, thanks to the tireless efforts of gun safety advocates like our founders, Jim and Sarah Brady, and then-Senator Joe Biden. Countless lives were saved while the ban was in effect and its end had deadly consequences: There was a staggering 183% increase in gun massacres in the decade after.

Today, we find ourselves in a dire situation: 2023 is on track to be the deadliest year for mass shootings in recent memory. But we have the power to change our trajectory. That's why we're calling on Congress to pass a new Assault Weapons Ban to stop this cycle of death and violence. We need 10,000 activists to respond before midnight tonight to show Congress that Americans are ready for change. Please, will you respond to our live poll right now?

Should Congress ban assault weapons?

Banning assault weapons is proven to save lives, John – full stop.

But the NRA and the gun lobby would rather make a profit off of marketing these deadly weapons to dangerous users than support any measure that would keep our children and families safe. It was their dark influence that ensured the end of the original ban on assault weapons and they have not stopped fighting its reinstatement since.

The NRA got their way because of propaganda, fear-mongering, and bankrolling their puppet politicians and the American people paid the price. Assault weapons became the weapon of choice for mass shooters because they are designed for mass carnage. In fact, 155% more people are shot in instances where an assault weapon is used, but numbers alone cannot encompass the tragedy inflicted on our country with weapons of war.

Countless communities have been forever changed after heinous use of assault weapons: Sandy Hook. Parkland. Orlando. Pittsburgh. El Paso. Buffalo. Uvalde. Nashville. Enough is enough. It's time to reinstate the Assault Weapons Ban and stop these senseless murders. Banning these weapons means stopping the next tragedy and we must fight as hard as we did all those years ago.

We know we can ban assault weapons because we’ve done it before, John. But we'll only be able to overcome the gun lobby's influence in Washington if dedicated activists like you raise your voice for change. So please, will you respond to our live survey before midnight to tell Congress to protect our communities?
