These images remind us what we’re fighting to protect.
Polar bear image. How well do you know polar bears?

More than any other animal, the polar bear is a living example of the devastating effects of climate change.

Every year on February 27, we celebrate International Polar Bear Day. These lumbering giants are so special to us here at EDF that we go all out.

We’re starting off with a collection of adorable, breathtaking, and poignant photos of polar bears, paired with facts about the bears you may not have known.

Check out our colorful Polar Bear Day slideshow now to test your polar bear IQ.

Looking at these photos, you’ll be reminded of what you’re fighting for when you fight for climate action.

Some photos, like the one featuring a heart-warming moment where a mother bear warmly embraces her two little cubs.

Others remind you of the peril these Arctic dwellers face in a warming world – including a heart-breaking glimpse of a lone bear, starving, struggling to survive (warning: that image is hard to look at, but we thought the polar bear story would be incomplete without an image of what’s at stake).

Learn more about the iconic polar bear and how you can help give them a better future by viewing our Polar Bear Day slideshow.

Thank you for everything you do to help polar bears,

P.S. Every year, we set a goal of recruiting 2,008 new members and monthly donors in honor of International Polar Bear Day. Make your first gift to EDF or start a new monthly gift today, and not only will your gift be matched $1-for-$1 by the Wilson Charitable Trust, we’ll also send you a cuddly plush polar bear as a small welcome gift.
