Maine Woodland Owners is offering a timber harvest tour at its land trust property, Hutchinson Family Woodland in Auburn on Saturday September 16, 9 am - 12 pm. Participants will learn about consideration before and during a timber harvest, the equipment that loggers use, and how areas look just after logging has occurred.

Maine Forest Service Pathologist Aaron Bergdahl, Project Canopy Director Jan Santerre, and District Forester Lauren Ouellette
This workshop is targeted to Public Works employees, Public Utilities, Arborists, and Foresters. Forest pathologist Aaron Bergdahl will discuss pest and disease threats and how to prune to reduce likelihood of decay and maintain town trees for overall health.
Outside location will be used to demonstrate proper techniques to prune trees in town?s right of way and gain understanding of how branching relates to loading throughout the tree?s structure. A variety of pruning examples will be shown, including discussion by Chris Mooers of Houlton Water Company on pruning techniques with overhead wire interference.
The Tree Pruning workshop is being held by the Southern Aroostook Soil and Water Conservation District and is *FREE*, (pre-registration not necessary)

Join Maine Forest Service?s Project Canopy Director Jan Santerre and District Forester Lauren Ouellette to learn proper techniques to prune the trees in your yard and garden, including how cut size and timing of pruning can impact wound closure and tree longevity. Jan and Lauren will demonstrate how and when to use a variety of hand tools to prune for tree health, vitality and aesthetics.
The Tree Pruning workshop is being held by the Southern Aroostook Soil and Water Conservation District and is *FREE *to interested homeowners.
No pre-registration necessary. All are Welcome!
If you have your own pruning hand tools, please bring them with you.

Join Maine Forest Service District Forester Mike Richard to learn Tree Identification tips and tricks. Participants will learn about the methods available for positive tree identification during fall conditions. Other topics including forest ecology, natural history and forest management will be discussed.
Historically this week is peak foliage for the area, so this will be a great time to get out and enjoy the colors!
We will meet at the Bethel Pathway - parking next to the Big Apple/Basketball Courts.
