John,
In this pivotal moment for Justice Democrats, I’m reflecting on all of the ways people like YOU have empowered us to make a difference since our inception in 2017.
Over the last six years, not only did we recruit and elect young, diverse, working-class progressives like Summer Lee, Cori Bush, Jamaal Bowman, and other Squad members to Congress — we made sure to fight for progressive representation in President Joe Biden’s administration when we unseated Donald Trump in 2020.
By hiring a Political Director and expanding our Communications team earlier in the 2020 cycle, it helped us kick-start work with our allies on the Hill and organize a progressive communications war room.
We didn’t waste a moment fighting for a seat at the table in the Biden administration: just days after the 2020 presidential election, we partnered with the Sunrise Movement to call on President Biden to appoint progressive leaders to 13 executive positions.
Together, we also launched campaigns like ClimateMandate.org to hold President Biden accountable to our communities and push for a bold governing agenda on climate change, urging him to create a new office dedicated to climate change.
Your support also allowed our team to combat the false narrative from conservative Democrats that progressives were somehow to blame for losses in the House and Senate, and push a positive vision forward of racial and economic justice.
Though President Biden hasn’t been able to deliver every campaign promise since he was elected, he came out swinging with many bold proposed actions in his first 100 days of office, and ultimately passed historic investments in infrastructure and the most aggressive action on climate change and environmental justice in American history. That wouldn’t have happened without our movement’s pressure.
Through our work with partners like Battle Born Collective, Data for Progress, United We Dream, and New Deal Strategies, we put pressure on Democrats in Congress to unite against the GOP by legislating aggressively, centering democracy reform, and revising the rules (like abolishing the filibuster) to pass big, bold, and popular solutions.
With the next presidential election approaching next year, our work is far from over. The reality is that there is way more to do in order to deliver the positive, lasting change our communities need and deserve. But with unprecedented financial challenges and our refusal to accept corporate money, the only way we’re going to be able to do that is through grassroots support from people like you.
We must come together to continue pushing President Biden and Congress to deliver bold, progressive solutions for the people.
Thanks for all you do,
Alexandra Rojas
