We only have 90 days to show an outpouring of support for President Biden's proposed rule that would expand the Brady Background Check System – and the gun lobby is already fighting tooth and nail to halt this critical progress in its tracks. Will you submit a comment in support of this lifesaving rule and urge the Justice Department to approve it as soon as possible?

John,
President Biden continues to use his executive power to its fullest extent in addressing our nation’s gun violence epidemic: His administration just issued a rule that, if put into effect, would be the broadest expansion of firearm background checks in decades.
|
Right now, 1 in 5 gun sales are conducted without a background check. Biden’s rule could affect hundreds of thousands of unlicensed gun sellers currently able to sell firearms without a background check.
John, we know that the majority of Americans want stronger gun laws. In fact, an incredible 97% of Americans across party lines support expanded background checks. Few other policies of any kind garner that kind of public support – and President Biden is acting in the interest of that majority. This action is supported by the American people, legally authorized by Congress, and is common sense.
The gun lobby will try to argue otherwise, John, and they’ll fight with everything they have to stop this new rule from being implemented – so we have to fight harder. That’s why we’re counting on our grassroots activists to speak out today. We only have 90 days to show an outpouring of support behind this proposed rule – will you submit a comment to the Justice Department right now and urge them to approve Biden's rule? >>

Because the original Brady Background Check Bill was passed thirty years ago, before the internet existed and gun shows became the big businesses they are today, there are deadly gaps in our laws that allow otherwise prohibited purchasers to circumvent a background check in acquiring firearms.
That’s why President Biden is taking action to put us closer to universal background checks. He’s building on the momentum of the passage of the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act last summer, the most consequential package of gun violence prevention bills in thirty years, which clarified what it means to be a federally licensed firearm dealer and thus who is required to conduct background checks on gun sales.
|
The expanded definition encompasses those evading background check regulations now – like unlicensed internet and gun show sellers – helping to close the deadly loopholes that exist in our system today. Licensed dealers are also required to keep records and sell guns with serial numbers, both of which are invaluable for law enforcement efforts to track weapons used in crimes.
|
Brady has worked tirelessly to create the framework that makes this consequential rule possible and we’ll keep fighting until it is implemented and lives are saved. But with the gun lobby determined to stop this lifesaving progress, we need all the support possible from our dedicated activists.
|
Please, John, will you submit a comment today and make it undeniably clear that the American people support President Biden’s rule to expand background checks and address the gun show and internet sales loopholes?

|
Thank you for your continued action and dedication to our movement, John.
