Birds need our help
As one of our priority birds, the Piping Plover’s current situation illustrates just how important our work is. Threatened or endangered throughout its range, we’ve made great strides in bringing this species back from the brink through conservation efforts including captive rearing, site monitoring, education, and outreach. In fact, these efforts have played a huge part in the growth of less than 15 breeding pairs in 1980 to 72 in 2022 in the Great Lakes.

2X MATCH CHALLENGE: ACTIVE
Birds are disappearing. Protect them with an annual gift today.

We can’t sugarcoat it: From extreme weather, to pollution, to human disturbances, many bird populations are at dangerously low levels. One such bird is the Piping Plover, who is endangered or threatened in every single corner of their range. Birds can’t ask you for your help, but we can: Will you start an annual donation now to protect the birds we love, like the Piping Plover? Your first gift will be matched, up to $5,000—so please, don't delay. An annual gift is a convenient way to provide for birds' future, as it renews automatically each year.

Thanks to the support of generous people like you, our work is making a positive impact for species like the Piping Plover. Last year, Great Lakes Piping Plovers had a record-breaking nesting season, with 150 chicks making their way into the wild. And just this past July, we released four Great Lakes Piping Plovers into Lower Green Bay for the very first time, marking a recovery milestone for this endangered species.
