Hi John,

In case you missed it, CNN published an interactive article that took my breath away. The headline is: “In the last decade, an estimated 40 million Americans lived within 1 mile of a mass shooting.”

I’d encourage you to check out the article. It’s a sobering, yet necessary deep dive into just how dire America’s epidemic of mass shootings has become.

People tend to assume that these devastating events are so uncommon and random that it could never affect them or a loved one. Sadly, GOP politicians have refused to take necessary actions to keep our families safe, and there have been over 470 mass shootings so far in 2023 alone.

I know what it feels like to lose a family member in a shooting. No parent deserves to feel the pain I felt, and still feel to this day.

The safety of our communities hinges upon our willingness as a nation to stand up to the gun lobbies and say enough is enough. We need comprehensive reform at all levels of government that will remove guns from the hands of dangerous people.

I’m leading this fight every day in Congress, and I won’t stop fighting on this issue until mass shootings become a thing of the past.
