Friend,
Every September, we recognize Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, as suicide is the tenth leading cause of death in the United States and the second leading cause of death among young adults between the ages of 10 and 34.
For those living with mental illness, seeking help can still be incredibly difficult given the barriers and stigma associated with mental health, which can often be even more challenging for young adults.
That’s why earlier this year, I was proud to co-introduce the Trauma Support and Mental Health in Schools Reauthorization Act — bipartisan legislation to improve access to evidence-based trauma support and mental health care services for students across our country.
I understand the mental health struggles communities across our district and country are facing, and that’s why I’m working with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to raise awareness and pass common-sense legislation to help address the stigma that prevents young adults from seeking help.
By passing this legislation, we will increase awareness of mental health issues among students, train school personnel to detect and respond to mental health issues and connect students to the critical services they need.
Friend, please support my efforts to pass this life-changing bipartisan legislation by signing my petition to call on Congress to pass the Trauma Support and Mental Health in Schools Reauthorization Act and address this public health crisis.[[link removed]]

Thank you for all you do. Together, we can fight to ensure our communities have the resources to address and break down the stigma associated with mental illness.
