It’s back to school season, Friend. As kids head back to the classroom, that means autumn is just around the corner and so are NYCC’s Community Education classes.
We know that building community power also means meeting our communities needs and supporting their ability to thrive. Our Community Education Program offers critical skills to adult learners for free across the city. In just the last year, we’ve served over 400 students in more than 600 class sessions.
Since 2010, we’ve taught classes to thousands of New Yorkers in the neighborhoods where we organize. We started our program with just two ESL classes back then, and now this fall we’re offering 18 classes to adult learners. We’re excited about our program’s growth – and we want to keep offering more programs to both adults and kids in our communities.
Can you support community members in reaching their learning goals by contributing $5 today?
Our program has continued to grow over the years to include more English as a Second Language classes, as well as Spanish, GED Prep, and Computer/Digital Skills classes. One of our latest additions is a youth performing arts program we hold in the spring – our performing arts students even performed at graduation for our other classes!
With our partner Consortium for Worker Education, our class content is driven by the needs of students and their communities — whether it’s gaining the skills needed to retain and secure a job or engage civically, we follow our communities’ lead.
As a grassroots organization, we’re committed to meeting community needs and your support can help us do that. Can you chip in to support our community education programming by contributing $5?
Happy back-to-school season,
Mariana Davenport
