Over the weekend, I attended a Vote Mama event in Connecticut! It was amazing to see our Vote Mama team IRL, meet grassroots supporters, and hear from our candidates and alumni!

We were joined by Vote Mama alumna, Mayor Caroline Simmons, Secretary of State Stephanie Thomas, and Congresswoman Jahana Hayes — a current Vote Mama candidate and DCCC frontliner with a critical seat on the line.

This wasn’t your typical political event. Our candidates didn’t just talk about paid leave or affordable childcare; they shared why their lived experience as moms makes these issues so profoundly personal.

They shared stories about clueless lawmakers who have no idea how breastfeeding actually works. They told us what it’s like to be one of few women and even fewer moms at the decision making table — did you know that the first women’s bathroom wasn’t installed off the U.S. House floor until 2011? And they got candid about why we need to elect more moms in order to have a truly representative democracy.
 

It is so crucial that we continue to elect Democratic moms up and down the ballot, and that’s exactly why we are supporting Congresswoman Jahana Hayes. Her seat is one the top targets for Republicans. In fact, the National Republican Congressional Committee has announced that it will be dumping resources and cash into flipping this seat red.

The good news is that we know Jahana CAN win because she’s done it before and has proven she has what it takes. But with the Democratic majority hanging in balance, the stakes are painfully high, and we know it won’t be easy.

Protecting key targeted seats like CT-05 is CRUCIAL if Democrats are going to take back the House, but it’s going to take all hands on deck to defeat the GOP’s well of cash.
