Oregon youth have strong demands for Gov. Kotek

Marches planned for September 15-17

Dear friend,

The climate crisis is escalating and so is the movement for climate justice. This weekend millions of people around the world will take to the streets ([link removed]) to demand a rapid, just, and equitable end to fossil fuels.

Youth across the State of Oregon will walk out of school this Friday, September 15, to strike as part of this global mobilization ([link removed]) . At the top of their list of demands: that Governor Kotek declare a climate emergency. Major youth-led climate strikes are planned for Portland ([link removed]) , Eugene ([link removed]) , Salem ([link removed]) , and Bend ([link removed]) . All of them are highlighting how a climate emergency declaration would allow the state government to act swiftly to reduce Oregon’s greenhouse gas emissions. For the same reasons, on a national level, protesters are demanding that President Biden issue a federal climate emergency declaration.

Rise with us to meet the urgency of this moment with an historic mobilization to end the era of fossil fuels. Join the march in New York City ([link removed]) , where world leaders are gathered for UN climate talks, or find or register a march near you ([link removed]) . Wherever you are, use your voice online to demand that we #EndFossilFuels #FastFairForever.

In solidarity for our collective future,
