John,

Just days ago, Ground Game won our biggest South Texas campaign yet — a living wage policy that will help lift hundreds of workers out of poverty in Hidalgo County , one of the poorest counties in the country.

This battle wasn’t easy. We had to gather thousands of signatures through a petition campaign. When the City denied our petition, we had to sue in federal court. And when we won that lawsuit, we worked with community groups to lobby the City Council. Now, over 20 months after the campaign began, we’ve won the most important Living Wage policy south of San Antonio.

The city of Edinburg has over 100,000 people, and now they’ve adopted the most important Living Wage policy in the Rio Grande Valley, thanks to the work of Ground Game Texas. Please contribute $15 or more today to keep us in this fight. [[link removed]]

In Edinburg, wages for City workers start at $12.24 per hour, even though national studies show that a Hidalgo County worker needs to earn at least $15 per hour to live above the poverty line. Now, as a result of our organizing, over 300 workers out of a workforce of 1100 will receive raises to at least $15 per hour.

We collaborated with local organization LUPE Votes, which serves farmworkers and other immigrant communities, to convince the City Council to adopt this policy. And now LUPE and Ground Game are making plans to launch additional campaigns across the region.

Through petition campaigns, Ground Game is winning policy reforms, activating voters, and creating the conditions for statewide political change. Please continue to support our work through a donation today. [[link removed]]
