John,
From protecting wealthy tax cheats to maintaining the obscene profits of tax-prep corporations, MAGA Republicans are putting the interests of their wealthy donors over the needs of millions of U.S. taxpayers.
That’s because, out of the total $80 billion investment in the IRS that we fought for and won last year, House Republicans are demanding Congress rescind $67 billion.
That money is meant to help the IRS crack down on wealthy and corporate tax evaders, answer taxpayer phone calls and process tax returns more quickly, and create the first-ever free, online tax-filing system without the tricks and traps created by tax prep corporations like TurboTax and H&R Block.
Republicans don’t care that every dollar spent on the IRS produces a 7-to-1 return on investment. In fact, they don’t want any investments in the IRS that allow it to better serve the American people or crack down on wealthy tax cheats.
The U.S. House returns today from its August recess―and rescinding $67 billion of the $80 billion investment in the IRS is a top MAGA demand.

Thanks to last year’s historic investment included in the Inflation Reduction Act, the IRS has been able to increase over-the-phone assistance by more than 2 million calls from the year before. They are now fully staffed and have reopened 362 Taxpayer Assistance Centers across the country and added 15 more this past tax filing season.[1]
Together, let’s keep fighting for a tax system that works for everyday people, not wealthy and corporate tax cheats.

John,
Each year, wealthy and corporate tax cheats get away with evading around $160 billion in taxes they owe.[1] But, thanks to the largest-ever investment in the IRS, that could be about to change.
Last year, we fought for and won an $80 billion investment to help the IRS crack down on wealthy and corporate tax cheats, answer more phones, process returns more quickly, and create an easy-to-use, free online tax-filing system.
Already, the IRS has collected $38 million from 175+ rich tax cheats and answered 2.4 million more taxpayer calls than in previous years.[2][3] And, next year it’s planning to launch a pilot program of its new tax-filing software.
But all of those investments are under threat by House Republicans who want to rescind $67 billion of the $80 billion investment. Apparently, protecting wealthy tax cheats is MAGA Republicans’ top priority.
The House returns from its August recess this week. They need to hear from us right now.

Rescinding IRS funding is the biggest difference between the House and Senate Appropriations bills and is a key demand of House Republicans in government spending negotiations.
They’ve already gone back on Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s handshake agreement with President Biden, which reallocated $10 billion of the $80 billion investment. Not satisfied with their previous debt-ceiling hostage taking, they’re coming back for even more.
Fight back against Republican attempts to gut critical investments in the IRS. Send a message to your U.S. representative today.
When the IRS is able to better-serve the American people, it means better customer service for taxpayers and real accountability for wealthy and corporate tax cheats.
Thank you for taking action today,
