There aren’t that many stories like mine in Congress.

Team, I'll be candid: I'm emailing today because we're coming off a summer fundraising slump. This isn't cause for panic — most campaigns raise less money during the summer — but unlike other candidates, I represent a district that right-wing extremists here in Colorado tried hard to flip red last year.

We need to be prepared to face down similar attacks if we're going to win this seat and retake our House majority next year. If you already know you’re with us and you're able to pitch in a few dollars to help us out, here is a secure link to do so: secure.actblue.com/donate/september-bp-email

But if you’re not yet convinced, and need some more information about why this fight, right here, right now, is so important, then here are five reasons I’m asking for your support today:

1) There aren’t that many stories like mine in Congress. To put myself through school, I waited tables, worked registers, served drinks — whatever it took to make ends meet and make my tuition payments. And I’m fighting hard every day in Congress for the regular people whose needs so often go overlooked in favor of special interests.

2) I will always do everything I possibly can to protect your civil rights. Whether it’s the right to an abortion, the right to vote, the right to be free from discrimination regardless of who you are or who you love — I will always stand up for Americans’ fundamental freedoms.

3) Despite the challenges, I’m still working to make bipartisan progress. I will never go against our fundamental values, but there are still opportunities to get important things done. In my first eight months on the job, I’ve put forward bipartisan legislation to tackle the opioid epidemic, improve mental health services in schools, and help Colorado families struggling with rising costs.

4) Right-wing super PACs tried hard to defeat me last year — and they’re going to try just as hard to stop me from getting re-elected. The attacks we can expect are as vicious and personal as it gets, and we need the resources ahead of time to fight back and get the truth out.

5) This is a must-win seat if we’re going to retake our House Majority and stop Kevin McCarthy from serving another term as Speaker. McCarthy hasn’t just put forward a horrendous policy agenda — he’s empowered extremists like Lauren Boebert and Marjorie Taylor Greene. Taking House control away from McCarthy means taking it away from all the extremists he spends his days catering to.

Team, if I’ve convinced you that this campaign matters, then I need your support today to put us on a path to victory — because unlike others, I can’t write myself a giant check, and I don’t cater to corporate special interests.

So can you pitch in $5 — or any amount that works for you — to help us catch up to our fundraising goal? Every single dollar goes such a long way.

Thank you so much for your support,

Brittany Pettersen
Congresswoman, Colorado’s 7th District
