Marjorie Taylor Greene says states should "consider seceding from the Union" on anniversary of 9/11 attacks
The radical, right-wing congresswoman who has spent the past two years breathlessly defending Jan. 6 insurrectionists' violent attempt to overthrow the American government is now going full-blown Confederacy and urging red states to break away from the United States over President Biden's border policies. Enough with the clown show. [RETWEET THAT!]

Fed-up Republican finally turns on Marjorie Taylor Greene on air
The QAnon congresswoman's ceaseless calls for a futile Biden impeachment are finally starting to irritate some of her Republican colleagues, including Colorado Rep. Ken Buck, who ripped her "absurd" demands to shreds on live TV.

It's push come to shove in the fight for safe abortion pills!
Center for Reproductive Rights: The maker of mifepristone has just filed an appeal to the Supreme Court to reverse the ruling that would cut off mail-order access to abortion pills, further curtailing access to abortion at a critical time for American women. This is a huge opportunity to restore access to abortion pills, but the legal battle is not going to be easy. Will you chip in to support the Center for Reproductive Rights and their fight to protect our access to medication abortion?
Republican compares the Biden administration to Osama bin Laden on 9/11
Once again demonstrating that there is truly nothing that Republicans hold sacred, far-right Rep. and avid Trump bootlicker Ralph Norman marked the anniversary of 9/11 by spitting on the graves of the victims with an absolutely absurd comparison. Norman, who begged Donald Trump to invoke "marshall [sic] law" to steal the 2020 election, claimed President Biden is doing his part — just like Osama bin Laden — to destroy America, all because Biden is, uh, allocating American tax dollars. Apparently, Norman sees no difference between flying jet airliners into buildings full of civilians and funding things like healthcare and child tax credits. [RETWEET THAT!]

Twitter appears to throttle New York Times
Posts to the platform formerly known as Twitter containing links to the New York Times appear to be reaching far fewer viewers than they did just a few months ago. Data shows a cratering in audience engagement starting in late July on posts that link to articles by the Times — a drop not reflected in posts linking to other major news outlets. The infamously vindictive Musk is no stranger to taking antagonistic measures toward perceived competitors and news outlets, either. Earlier this year Twitter, or whatever Musk is calling it now, banned, then unbanned posts containing links to the blogging subscription site Substack. This revelation should be viewed in its proper context — as part of Musk's ongoing political project to destroy unfettered access to reliable news sources.

Protesters arrested for storming Kevin McCarthy’s office
Seven AIDS activists were arrested for storming into Speaker Kevin McCarthy's House office chanting "pass PEPFAR now, McCarthy!" in reference to the formerly bipartisan HIV-fighting program that Republicans are currently holding hostage. MAGA representatives are opposing reauthorization of PEPFAR — a stunningly successful program that has saved more than 25 million lives to date — unless a blanket ban on abortion is enforced on all organizations accepting funds from the program. If funding isn't passed separately, PEPFAR will only receive money so long as the government doesn't shut down, which seems increasingly unlikely given ongoing GOP infighting. If Republicans refuse to budge on this issue, people will die, plain and simple.
Take Action: Tell Democrats to keep fighting for abortion rights!
Outlaw sheriff vows not to enforce New Mexico governor’s temporary gun ban
A disturbing trend in recent years has been the growing number of invariably right-wing local sheriffs who believe that they have the power to unilaterally decide which laws to ignore and which to enforce. In this case, Bernalillo County Sheriff John Allen in New Mexico has declared that Democratic Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham's emergency ban on the right to carry firearms in most public places around Albuquerque is "unconstitutional" and will not be enforced. In other words, he has seized for himself power that is supposed to be invested in the court system. This is lawlessness of the worst form, and Allen should be immediately removed from office.

US sets record for billion-dollar weather disasters in a year — and there’s still 4 months to go
The deadly firestorm in Hawaii and Hurricane Idalia’s watery storm surge in the southeast helped push the United States to a new, unwelcomed record for the number of weather disasters that cost $1 billion or more in a single year — and it's only September. Although Republicans still refuse to accept it — preferring instead to blame the multiplying disasters on bad luck or divine intervention — these tragedies are striking more often and with more intensity due to climate change. The longer Republicans wait to join Democrats and take meaningful climate action, the worse things are going to get. [RETWEET THAT!]
How schools are dealing with the ongoing teacher shortage
Millions of students are returning for another school year marked by challenging teacher shortages, causing schools to double up classrooms, move courses online, and employ underqualified teachers. As states lower the certification standards to become a teacher, education experts worry these tactics could delay students’ recovery from pandemic learning loss. There is, of course, an incredibly simple solution to this problem. We could start actually paying teachers what they're worth to attract more top-tier talent. The problem is that such an overhaul would entail significantly increasing the Education Department's budget, and right now Republicans are waging a war to abolish it entirely.
10,000 missing as catastrophic flooding hits Libya following major dam collapse
Thousands of people are feared dead in Libya after Storm Daniel brought severe rain and floods to the eastern part of the country, sweeping entire coastal neighborhoods into the sea. Footage of the horrifying tragedy is spreading across social media, bringing the reality of climate change directly into the homes of millions. As rescue efforts are undertaken, it's imperative that the rest of the world recognize this as an urgent call to action. The developed countries of the world that contributed disproportionately to climate change must step up and put their wealth to use aiding the developing countries most severely affected.
US makes deal with Iran to swap prisoners and release $6 billion in frozen Iranian funds
Scoring yet another diplomatic victory that would have been impossible under the erratic, unstable leadership of Donald Trump, President Biden has cleared the way for the release of five American citizens detained in Iran by issuing a blanket waiver for international banks to transfer $6 billion in frozen Iranian money from South Korea to Qatar without fear of US sanctions. In addition, as part of the deal, the administration has agreed to release five Iranian citizens held in the United States.
