Dear John,
Behind every patient at Children's Hospital Los Angeles is a family. When you support CHLA, you support the families experiencing the journey alongside their children.
Above is Lex and his family, proudly showing the L.A. Times ad featuring his story. After undergoing a liver transplant as an infant, Lex is now thriving.
With your support, we can help many more families like Lex's. Thank you for helping us reach our $650,000 fundraising goal in December, where your impact was multiplied due to a generous match from Credit Unions for Kids.
Below are more family stories that supporters like you make possible. We are grateful to have you as part of our extended CHLA family.

Like Music to His Parents' Ears
Born with a rare case of webbed vocal cords, Rio was silent for the first nine months of his life. He couldn't cry, whine, laugh or babble, until a CHLA surgeon separated his vocal cords and rebuilt his larynx. This allowed Rio to finally make his first sounds, and his parents to hear them.

A Note of Thanks
As a child, Nathan was treated for two different forms of cancer. On his 13th birthday, his mother, Samantha, wrote a letter of thanks to his CHLA doctors:
"Nine years ago today we woke up truly not knowing if it would be Nathan's last birthday. Today we wake up with so much hope ... There's not a day in the last 11 years that has gone by that I haven't thought of you both and your love and compassion for our family. What you have given us is priceless."

Best Uncle Ever
JP LeVeque, a self-described "regular guy who runs," never considered running more than his usual 3 to 5 miles. That changed after his nephew Sebastian was successfully treated at CHLA for a brain-related condition at birth. To celebrate Sebastian and support CHLA, LeVeque decided to run a marathon and raise $20,000 in the process. He crushed both goals.

Porto's Bakery: Why We Give
The relationship between Porto's Bakery & Cafe and CHLA dates back to 1976, when the first storefront of the family business opened less than 2 miles from the hospital. Since then, the beloved local eatery has supported CHLA and shared its sweet treats with patients, families and staff. The connection is personal, as Vice President of Community Relations Betty Porto says: "Even right now, we have 1,200 employees, and I can guarantee nearly all of them have either had a child treated at Children's Hospital or know someone who has."

A Father's Gift
Eszylfie Taylor has always cared about children’s causes. Even before his twin daughters were treated at CHLA, he supported the hospital. Drawing on his experience as a financial planner, he decided to make a planned gift that will grow over time and make an even larger impact in the future.
