John, this week,
nearly 150,000 autoworkers could embark on one of the BIGGEST strikes of the year, and we want to show them we have their back!
Sign here so autoworkers will see your name and know that a powerful progressive movement stands with them as they take on this massive fight for what they deserve against the corporate bosses.
In 2007-2009, the Great Recession turned the auto industry upside down. To save it,
autoworkers took massive cuts to their wages and benefits when the companies introduced “tiers,” worse pay for the same work. Pensions were eliminated. Post-retirement healthcare vanished for new hires. Jobs were cut.
In short, the companies got billions in taxpayer bailout dollars, while autoworkers took deep cuts and made life-changing sacrifices to keep the industry alive.
Flash forward to 2023: Autoworkers built $250,000,000,000 in North American profits for the Big Three in the past decade —
that’s a quarter of a TRILLION dollars. CEO pay is up 40% in four years; autoworker wages increased only 6% in that time, while inflation is up 18%.
Now, as their contract is set to expire, the United Auto Workers (UAW) union has been in negotiations with General Motors, Ford, and Stellantis, making reasonable but necessary demands:
- Fair pay increases
- Improved benefits and Pensions
- An end to the tiered wage system
- And job security for all workers during the transition to electric vehicle
John, you see what’s at stake. That’s why, this past weekend, I joined
UAW President Sean Fain and
US Rep. Rashida Tlaib for a virtual rally and saw the solidarity of these workers first hand. And, they’re not just fighting for one another, they’re advancing the fight for workers all across the country.
We need our government to be on the side of workers, and not greedy bosses who get bailouts from taxpayers and then cut pay and benefits for their workers.
The last few years have been monumental for a resurgent labor movement in America, and as progressives we are proud to help build worker power, join picket lines, and lend our voices to amplify these critical battles.
Take a stand right now and add your name to the millions speaking out to stand with United Autoworkers and their families as they get ready to take this fight to the next level.
When we organize, we win!
