Kim Jong Un to Visit Putin

Kim Jong Un, the leader of North Korea, will make an official visit to Russia at the invitation of Vladimir Putin, the two governments announced on Monday, setting the stage for a rare meeting that Western officials warn could bolster Moscow’s war effort in Ukraine, as the NYT reports.

Desperation in Morocco

Pressure mounted Monday on the Moroccan government to rescue survivors of a powerful earthquake still trapped beneath rubble and provide food, water and shelter for thousands of others, as it faces criticism for being slow to accept international help, as the WSJ reports.

FDA Approves New Covid Vaccine

The Food and Drug Administration on Monday approved a reformulated coronavirus vaccine in a bid to provide increased protection ahead of cooler weather — even as the nation experiences a late-summer uptick of covid-19 cases and hospitalizations, as The Washington Post reports.

Smiles

It’s hard to smile on September 11. But I try to when I think about some of the good that has come from it. One example is that my dear friend Jim Hake founded Spirit of America in wake of 9/11 to help our troops and diplomats in saving lives, defending freedom, helping people build free and better lives, and showing the world America at our best. Most recently, working with U.S. military personnel, Spirit of America has delivered over 200 tons of protective, nonlethal aid—body armor, helmets, medical supplies, surveillance drones, vehicles, food, and more—to Ukrainian soldiers and civilian volunteers on the front lines.

And, on September 11, I think of Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band and what they did to help us rise from the ashes of that tragic day. Get well soon, Boss!
