Holy Rusted Metal Batman! The Governor of New Mexico has gone full tilt and used her executive powers to unlawfully ban the carrying of firearms in Albuquerque, citing an emergency Public Health Order. But we stepped in post-haste - Gun Owners Foundation and Gun Owners of America, GOC’s sister organization, immediately filed a federal lawsuit challenging Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham’s gross and egregious violation of the U.S. Constitution. The suit, and an urgent request for a temporary restraining order/preliminary injunction, were filed in U.S. District Court for the District of New Mexico.
To that end, Sam Paredes, GOC Executive Director is doing double duty these days – from California’s State Capitol he spoke regarding the New Mexico situation on behalf of GOF’s Board of Directors:
“The thought of elected leaders claiming they have the authority to unilaterally suspend rights guaranteed under the Constitution during a designated ‘emergency’ is truly terrifying, and the very reason we the people are guaranteed the right to bear arms. We’ve been saying for quite some time now that we will not rest until politicians fall in line with the law, but in this case, we would certainly hope that the people and lawmakers of New Mexico think long and hard about permanently removing this tyrant from office.”
And, as we’ve reported, this is the FINAL WEEK of legislative madness. The gavel will hit the dais at midnight on the 14th, the first half of the 2023/2024 Legislative Session will be adjourned and rest assured, GOC will be there ‘til the end. So far, AB 28 (11% excise tax on all firearms and ammo purchases) is the most contemptible bill thus far to pass both the Senate and the Assembly and is on its way to the Governor.
