I’m writing to you with an update on the devastating earthquake in Morocco that has now claimed over 2,600 lives. Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) teams have mobilized to assess the needs in earthquake-affected areas. We are working with local authorities and communities on how we can best support them.
Hospitals in Marrakech have received an influx of injured people, but are functional. However, we expect there to be a need for medical care in the mountainous areas of the High Atlas that are most difficult to reach—especially now that the earthquake has affected road access.
It’s thanks to our generous donors that MSF is able to help when an emergency strikes—sometimes within a matter of hours. On behalf of our nearly 63,000 doctors, nurses, logisticians, and more—thank you for supporting lifesaving care around the world.

BREAKING NEWS: Powerful earthquake strikes Morocco
Last night, a 6.8-magnitude earthquake struck Morocco’s High Atlas Mountains, killing at least 1,000 people and injuring thousands more. Tragically, the death toll continues to rise as local rescuers try to save those trapped under the rubble. Earthquake survivors could require medical care like surgery and dialysis, which can be a daunting challenge when local health systems are disrupted, and many essential supplies will likely be needed in the days ahead.
When a crisis like the one in Morocco strikes, we are able to immediately mobilize—sometimes within a matter of hours. Your generous support means we don’t have to wait to write grants or face red tape and restrictions—we can immediately get to work saving lives.
