22 years ago, our country experienced one of the worst tragedies in American history. Thousands of lives were lost in the September 11 attacks, including hundreds of first responders who heroically leapt into action to help their fellow citizens.
Like many Americans, I still remember where I was that morning. At the time, I was a third year law student in the Boston area, where two of the hijacked flights originated. Many of my friends and classmates went into the military or public service after those horrific terrorist attacks, to try to honor the memory of those who perished.
9/11 was a big part of the reason I chose to begin my career at the Securities and Exchange Commission, prosecuting financial crimes. I felt compelled to serve my country by fighting for fundamental American values and standing up for working families in any way possible.
While my Republican opponent is on record disparaging the memory of those who lost their lives in the 9/11 attacks, I will continue serving our communities and advocating for veterans and active military, and everyone across the district.
We must never give up on our values and our democracy. Today, and every day, we remember those we lost, and we honor the resilience of our nation.
