Amid such unimaginable sorrow, there arose a profound unity that spanned from coast to coast. Let's rekindle that spirit of unity.
Hi Friend,
Today, we solemnly mark the 22nd anniversary of the September 11th attacks—a day that altered the course of our nation and the world. Some of us at No Labels were in New York; others were in Washington, D.C. None of us will ever forget what we saw and felt that day, and the losses we all experienced.
In the immediate aftermath, there was an overwhelming sense of fear, mourning, and anger. But it was not all that we felt. Miraculously, amid such unimaginable sorrow, there arose a profound unity that spanned from coast to coast.
Americans from all walks of life rallied together in extraordinary ways. Charitable donations poured in, blood drives were overwhelmed with volunteers, and countless heroes emerged in the rescue and cleanup efforts at Ground Zero. Across the country, people flew their American flags.
Perhaps most emblematic of the unity that enveloped our nation were the members of Congress—Democrats and Republicans alike—standing side by side on the steps of the U.S. Capitol. They sang "God Bless America," their voices reaching out to a country yearning for leadership and comfort. It was a place that could have been the fourth target, were it not for the brave passengers of Flight 93 who thwarted the terrorists’ plans.
For those of us old enough to remember that tragic period, it was, paradoxically, one of the most unified times in modern American history. We were one—regardless of political ideology, ethnicity, or religion. Today, however, the landscape has changed dramatically. Division abounds, faith in institutions has eroded, and our common goals as Americans seem further apart than ever.
Though we are grateful that the nation has not faced another tragedy like 9/11, we believe it is crucial, especially today, to recapture the spirit of unity that defined us in its wake. No Labels is dedicated to rekindling that spirit—by breaking down barriers, ending hyper-partisanship, and creating a space for solutions that draw from the best of all of us.
As we take time today to remember the nearly 3,000 lives lost and the heroes who arose 22 years ago, let's also vow to reclaim that sense of collective purpose. Just as we learned in the aftermath of 9/11, we are at our strongest when we stand together.
In solemn remembrance,
Team No Labels
