Hello,

This week, I discuss the dangers of confusing political ideologies with religious movements. Then, I talk with breakout musician Chris Lunsford, better known as Oliver Anthony, about the balance between vision and efficiency in artistic and commercial endeavors, and his hit song “Rich Men North of Richmond.” From the archives, I look back on a conversation I had with Amala Ekpunobi where we discussed sacrifice, voluntary challenge, and conflict.

Why The Political Should Not Carry The Spiritual

It is psychologically dangerous to confuse political explanations and ideologies with religious and spiritual ideologies and movements. You do not want the political to carry the weight of the spiritual, I do not think. I think it is dangerous. I also believe that ideologies essentially function as crippled religions. So they have the motive force of religious belief and the attractiveness of religious belief, which I think is actually a necessity for human beings because we are religious by nature, but they do not have the symbolic complexity that a religion has — a well-established religion with its mystical elements and its dogmatic elements.

The problem with ideologies, as far as I am concerned, is that they are not useful as practical, problem-solving guides. Most of the problems that beset us are very, very complex. They need to be decomposed in a sophisticated way into their constituent elements until they are differentiated enough so that partial solutions for some of the problem can arise as a consequence of practical endeavors. That requires the willingness to do that kind of detailed thinking, and it requires the development of specialized expertise. Ideology can blind you to your own stupidity, and that is actually dangerous.

In Jordan’s series “On Marriage,” he discusses the fundamentals of relationships, the critical aspects of marriage, and the beauty that comes from this commitment. Most unique in this series are the personal stories Jordan shares of his and Tammy’s marriage in these three episodes. '100% Transparent': Jordan Peterson Says He Will Move To Broadcast Mandated Social Media Training

Dr. Jordan B. Peterson said that he will move to broadcast publicly the social media training he was ordered to undergo by a psychologist governing body that targeted Peterson for criticizing transgender ideology, climate alarmism, and the Canadian government.

Peterson told Fox News host Jesse Watters … that he hoped to film or audio record all sessions of the court-upheld social media training. Last week, the Ontario Superior Court of Justice ruled that the College of Psychologists of Ontario could mandate Peterson to go through a so-called “specified continuing education or remedial program.”

“I’m going to do everything I can to make all of this as public as I possibly can,” he told Watters. “I have done that from the beginning. I released all the documents that included the charges, so to speak, that the college has levied against me. I want to make this 100% transparent and let the public decide for themselves who exactly is acting, let’s say, in an unprofessional capacity.”

On this episode of the podcast, I speak with breakout musician Chris Lunsford, better known by his stage name Oliver Anthony. We discuss the balance between vision and efficiency in artistic and commercial endeavors, why Chris’ hit song “Rich Men North of Richmond” has resonated so broadly and so quickly, the way honest expression through music can combat demoralization, how politics have become confused with the sacred, and what we can do to restore each to their proper order.
