Remembering those who gave everything

John,
Today marks the anniversary of one of our nation’s darkest days. And I join all my fellow Americans in mourning the victims we lost on that fateful day. But as we mourn, we must never forget those who stood up among the flames and sacrificed everything in duty to their country, to their neighbors, to their fellow Americans.

It is in their sacrifice that we are able to recover a shred of hope from that tragic day. We honor today those brave New York police officers, the firefighters, and service-members, who have put everything on the line for their country. It is their courage we remember today.

I’ve been honored to experience such bravery firsthand, I was proud to lead the bravest of airmen and women overseas and couldn’t help but be struck by their dedication to the American values we fought for. When facing enemies that wanted only to destroy our country, we fought victoriously to preserve the American dream for our people. Upon returning home, I felt inspired by their sacrifice to continue fighting for the American people in any way possible, that is why I want to represent them today.

My hope today is that we don’t just remember those brave heroes, but honor their sacrifice by coming together and following their example to preserve the American dream. Our country faces threats today, and we must stand up together and face those threats. We have been given a gift by the heroes on that day, and I want to make certain we do not waste it now.
