** A Day of Unity, Remembrance, and Resilience
------------------------------------------------------------

Friends -

I’d been mayor for three years. Raley Field/Sutter Health Park had opened the year before, and we’d just cut the ribbon on the River Walk.

I woke up early the morning of 9/11 to an answering machine message that the World Trade Center was in flames after an attack. Like most of America, my city was still on dial-up service for the Internet and smart phones didn’t exist. I had a pager, not a text-enabled phone. Today, we take for granted that you could find out all the details at will. But not then.

Here’s the thing. The three-story headquarters of the Port of West Sacramento was called the World Trade Center. The building also happened to be West Sacramento’s interim city hall. So I grabbed yesterday’s clothes from next to my bed and rushed down the street to respond to the crisis.

But our local World Trade Center was intact. No fire. No first responders. No crisis. And, before dawn, no people. Puzzled, I went back home. I turned on the TV, and saw the full horror of what had happened and what was unfolding. Shock, rage, patriotism, loss, fear, and moments of hope and grateful admiration for heroes—I felt every emotion all at once.

In a moment of national crisis, we rally together. Not only to act, but also for the simple purpose of being with one another, united. We didn’t have text chains, Discord, social media, Twitch, or any way to connect virtually. It had to be in person. So my colleagues at City Hall and I put out the call: join the whole community for a vigil at the RiverWalk at dusk. This was to be a first, as we had never had such a large public gathering, at least not with just a few hours’ notice.

I arrived at the RiverWalk, ready to join in solidarity and mourning with a few dozen or maybe a hundred of my neighbors. But thousands showed up, and not just from West Sacramento. United not by the terror but by our local bond and national resolve.

Today, I hope you will join me for a day of somber remembrance, putting aside the division that has come to define our politics. We are in this together, we are stronger together, and we will always find light in unity, drawing from the bonds that tie us as neighbors, as a community, and as a nation.

Sincerely,

Christopher Cabaldon

** Dining on the Bridge to Support Access to Healthcare!
------------------------------------------------------------

This weekend I had the pleasure of dining under the stars on the historic Trestle Bridge in Downtown Winters. This unique event featured a delicious menu, courtesy of local favorite, Buckhorn Steakhouse ([link removed]) - always a crowd-pleaser (and one of the best steaks I’ve had in my life).

Throughout our region, and the state, rural communities often lack access to the healthcare services they need. That’s why this event was so important.

Proceeds went to support the development of a new 28,000 sq. ft. building for Winters Healthcare in Esparto. This hub for health and social services will allow the people on the western side of Yolo County to access vital services in their community.

Thank you to everyone who came together to break bread and help ensure that the west side of Yolo County has access to these critical healthcare services!

I’m also excited to share a sneak peek of the new facility in Esparto!

** An Evening at the Napa Ruins!
------------------------------------------------------------

Last week, the American Canyon Community & Parks Foundation hosted its cornerstone annual fundraiser, the "Evening at the Ruins."

Our region’s open spaces are a civic asset that require our protection and stewardship. And anytime we can get together for a night of music, light displays and graffiti art to support trail programs, environmental education and improving local parks is a pretty good way to spend an evening.

As I aspire to serve as your state senator, I am committed to championing the preservation and enrichment of our community's open spaces, ensuring they continue to thrive for generations to come.

** Wait 3 New Cities? Where Exactly Would Each One Be?
------------------------------------------------------------

More details about Flannery Associates’ plans are trickling out every day. This week, Congressman Mike Thompson met with representatives from the group that said they have not yet decided whether they plan to build one large, two medium or three small towns in Solano County. Where these cities or towns will be built remains to be seen.

Following that meeting, Congressman Thompson characterized the shared details as more of a "vision" than a concrete plan. He noted, “To say that this is going to be a long, long road is probably an understatement.”

As I’ve shared in previous newsletters, and in my recent testimony in the Senate ([link removed]) , and in recent news articles ([link removed]) there is a broad spectrum of questions that remain unanswered, and challenges to be faced. These include issues such as water rights, changing the economic viability of the agricultural community in Solano, and taking land use decisions to the voters, among others.

As I continue to work to earn your support as State Senator, I am committed to advocating for transparency, seeking the answers our community needs, and keeping you informed on the long road ahead.

** Community Event Where Woodland Meats!
------------------------------------------------------------

Last week, I had a blast spending time with community members at a fundraising event at the Burger Saloon ([link removed]) in Woodland! I was able to share my vision for how we can continue moving our community forward by focusing on creating good paying job opportunities, promoting smart growth, and protecting the diverse environments that make our region so unique. I’d like to extend my sincerest gratitude to everyone who came out to support our campaign! If you would like to see when I will be at an event near you, sign up for updates on our website ([link removed]) to stay engaged.

Missed the event but still want to show your support? You can donate right now ([link removed]) ! Every contribution helps ensure voters throughout the district hear from our campaign.
