Scientists reported that this was the hottest summer in the Northern Hemisphere ever recorded. August brought in record-breaking temperatures, only second to July 2023. The month was around 1.5 degrees C warmer than pre-industrial averages — the warming threshold scientists have been warning of.

Appeals Court rules Rio Grande barrier can remain for now

The 5th Circuit Court of Appeals issued a temporary stay last week that allows Texas to keep the Rio Grande floating barriers in place while it further examines the case. A federal judge ruled that the barriers were a threat to safety and diplomatic ties.
