Friend, today we commemorate the 22nd anniversary of the September 11th attacks and remember the nearly 3,000 Americans who lost their lives in these horrific acts of violence.

The September 11th attacks forever changed our country. Whether it’s marked by an empty seat at the dinner table, a vacant desk in a classroom, or a sense of intangible emptiness and loss left by those whose shoes are impossible to fill, many Americans still feel the pain of 9/11 every day. Because for some, no amount of time will ever heal these wounds.

However, today, we not only remember the insurmountable anguish caused by the September 11th attacks, but we also remember the bravery of the American people and the resilience in our response.

The way that our men and women in uniform ran into the flames to save their fellow Americans or the way that communities across the country came together to support each other exemplified the true strength and resilience that sit at the core of who we are as an American people.

So today, I hope you’ll join me in both mourning the nearly 3,000 lives we lost 22 years ago and remembering the strength of the American people.
