Dear John,
 
Our U.S. Senator Doug Jones voted to impeach President Trump. 

I find it astonishing that any elected official from Alabama could vote in clear violation of the Constitution, but he did it nonetheless. 

Here's a bit of back story on how we got here: 

Alabama's other senator, Richard Shelby, helped elect Doug Jones. 
Like I tweeted yesterday, Mr. Shelby is at least partially to blame for this vote to remove President Trump, and should apologize for his involvement in undermining the 2017 election.


I've spent my life studying the Constitution. And one thing is clear: 

In no way did Mr. Jones in his speech remotely justify his vote to remove the president from office. 

Jones claims he's defending the constitution. 

But he ignored it with this vote on Wednesday. 

His Democrat party spent 8 years ceding power at will to the Congress. I don't expect to hear him rein in any future Democrat president. 

Jones claims President Trump "left his post." 

Doug Jones is the only one to have left his post. His vote is one driven purely by politics. 

The Democrats and their partners in the opposition media will continue to wage war against President Trump by any means necessary.

Of course we know by now that the means the Democrats use will not be in any way legitimate. 

We must not allow the fake news media to complete their 2017 smear job on me, or their three-year long smear job on the President. 

We must send men of strong character into high office to fight beside our president.

P.S.: Richard Shelby needs to apologize for pushing Doug Jones on Alabama. And he needs to apologize to President Trump. Please join our fight to return honest men of integrity to D.C. to represent the great state of Alabama once again.
