Honoring public sector workers today in particular

On Saturday Governor Wes Moore, Baltimore's Mayor Brandon Scott, AFSCME's National President Lee Saunders and AFSCME Maryland Council 3's President Patrick Moran joined a #StaffTheFrontLines hiring event in Baltimore to highlight the thousands of good union jobs available in Maryland.

Today in particular, on September 11, we honor public sector workers like the members of AFSCME. “When the unthinkable happened, AFSCME members did what AFSCME members do," Saunders said in 2019. "They raced to the front lines, they put their communities first, they were at their best when things were at their worst." Learn more about the Staff the Front Lines tour »

On Friday a coalition of UFCW locals in fourteen states and DC representing more than 100,000 Kroger and Albertsons workers released a statement regarding Kroger and Albertsons' newly announced plan to sell hundreds of stores to C&S Wholesale Grocers.

“Workers and shoppers have been seriously harmed by large-scale sell-offs in the past, orchestrated as part of a potential merger," the statement explains. "Today’s announcement of a nearly identical divestiture scheme is a troubling sign that history could repeat itself."

Take action: Send a letter to the FTC asking them to #StopTheMerger.
