Dear Jack,

Unlike many charities, Survival rejects funding from governments and anyone who might be violating the rights we are fighting to protect. Our fight for the rights of Indigenous peoples across the world relies primarily on the support of people like you.

This week is Remember a Charity Week, a week dedicated to highlighting the importance of leaving gifts in wills and how charities like ours rely on them.

Survival would not have been able to achieve what it has without supporters over the years making the decision to remember us in their will. These gifts, both large and small, have allowed us to respond to emergencies as they strike and act immediately to support Indigenous peoples who are under threat.

At the time of Survival’s founding in 1969, many experts predicted that all tribal people in Brazil would be wiped out by the end of the century. Not only did that not happen, but now, fifty-four years on, there are believed to be more uncontacted peoples across the world than ever thought. It is a testament to the resilience of Indigenous peoples – and to the determination of their allies like you – that they have survived.

But they still face huge threats. The fight for their survival is far from over, and our work will, unfortunately, still be needed for years to come. If you are coming to write or update your will, we ask that you consider leaving a gift for Indigenous peoples all over the world.

If you have already included us in your will, I would like to thank you on behalf of everyone at Survival for helping us continue our fight long into the future. We’d love to hear from you – please let us know here.

Best wishes,

Louisa Leslie
