Congressman McHenry Weekly Update

Visiting Iredell County

Before I returned to Washington to resume this Congress, I spent a day traveling around Iredell County. First, I stopped by Iredell Health System in Mooresville for an important roundtable discussion on health care in the Tenth District.

Thank you to Iredell Health and the North Carolina Healthcare Association for inviting Senator Tillis and me. I enjoyed a productive conversation and look forward to working together to improve care for our constituents.

Later, I had the opportunity to speak with the Greater Statesville Chamber of Commerce to provide an update on my work in Washington. I appreciate the members of the Statesville Chamber who attended to advocate for their community.

Thanks as well to Chamber President Shannon Viera and Business Advocacy Chairman William Morgan for hosting me for lunch and having me on the Chamber's Advocacy in Action podcast.

In recognition of National Preparedness Month, I visited the EnergyUnited dispatch center to see their investment in technology that will ensure they are prepared to execute emergency response during a major outage.

Finally, I stopped by Trane Technologies in Davidson for a discussion on tax, trade, and intellectual property policy and its impact on a manufacturing leader here in the Tenth District.

Checking in with Catawba County

This week, I also traveled to Catawba County to meet with constituents. First up was a visit to International Paper in Newton to learn about the products they make in the Tenth District.

Thanks to Site Manager Chuck Williams and the entire Newton Box Plant team for the tour and the opportunity to see all they do right here in Catawba County.

I also had the opportunity to visit Appalachian State University’s new campus in Hickory. This wonderful facility welcomed students for the Fall Semester in August and is a fantastic addition to Catawba County and the Tenth District. I look forward to watching the university's continued growth.

I ended my day in the county with The Chamber of Catawba County for some Q&A and an update from Washington. Thank you to Chamber President Lindsay Keisler for putting together such a wonderful event and Chamber Board Chair Zack Cranford for hosting us at City Walk Brewing & Distilling.

Hickory fire captain retires after 30 years

Congratulations to Jeff Boggs, a captain with Hickory Fire Department, on retiring after 30 years of service. Captain Boggs began his firefighting career in 1994 and was promoted to captain in 2003. Thank you for your dedication to the Hickory community.

Hickory Police Department honored

The Hickory Police Department has been honored with The Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award for its efforts to support employees who also serve in our military. This award is the highest recognition given by the federal government to employers for their outstanding support of employees currently serving in the Reserve or Guard. Credit to the Hickory Police Department for supporting the brave men and women who serve our country while also protecting the community.
