It's the start of a new decade, which means that by April 1st you will hear from the Census Bureau. We're getting a head start and are encouraging every one of our supporters to complete the 2020 Census. The Power Coalition has great resources specific to Louisiana where you can learn more about the 2020 Census and ways you can help your community complete it.
The Census determines whether or not our voices are heard. Political maps are redrawn every decade using Census data, so communities that are undercounted ultimately end up underrepresented in their local, state, and federal political bodies. Furthermore, Census data is used to divvy out hundreds of billions of dollars in federal funding. Every uncounted person in Louisiana costs the state $2,291 in critical resources.
The Census only takes about 10 minutes to complete, consisting of just 10 questions. It can be completed online, over the phone, or via mailed paper form.
Every single one of us counts, and we can all make a difference for Louisiana by completing the 2020 Census and urging your friends and neighbors to do so too.
