“Within just one human generation, the odds for bumblebee survival have dropped by an average of more than 30%.”

This stunning fact appeared in new research published in Science last month, the latest in a series of devastating reports telling us that the way we grow our food -- and our very way of life -- is at risk.

Bee-killing neonicotinoids are a key driver of bee declines. You know it. I know it. The EPA knows it.

But since the EPA refuses to act, it’s up to us. Together, we can get bee-killing pesticides banned -- but we must act NOW.

Wherever they’re used, neonics are leaving devastation in their wake. Indeed, so many of the news reports you see about species being driven to extinction can be traced back to neonics: from the devastation of wild bees and pollinators to vanishing fireflies and the disturbing loss of songbirds.

The science is so clear that Europe and Canada have both banned some uses of neonics. But the U.S. is, outrageously, doing nothing to stop bee-killing neonics from wiping out pollinators and destroying our food system.

I’m betting you understand as well as I do that the current Environmental Protection Agency leadership is putting pesticide producers like Bayer-Monsanto’s needs ahead of bees, people and the planet. And I’m also betting you want to do something about it.

If we want to save bees, we’re going to have to make noise -- and a lot of it. That’s why I’m writing to you. Friends of the Earth needs people like you on our side as we wage this fight. Please, if you care about bees, make a generous contribution before it’s too late.

Together, we will not rest. You’ll help us:

  • Continue to demand that the EPA ban neonics.
  • Keep up the pressure on Congress to protect pollinators.
  • Work with local communities and states to enact their own pesticide bans.
  • Demand change at the corporate level.

Of course, pesticide producers would have you believe that disease and habitat loss are the true culprits in bee declines. But the science is too strong to ignore. The truth is, neonics – the most widely used insecticides in the world -- are toxic, persistent, and everywhere.

Your support of Friends of the Earth has put you at the vanguard of the fight for pollinators. Together, we’ve had some key wins, and momentum is on our side. But there’s more work to do, and all of us at Friends of the Earth are counting on you to help us make sure neonics and other bee-killing pesticides are banned forever.
