Dear John,
You’ve heard of corporate tax loopholes so big you could drive a truck through them?
Amazon, FedEx, and Ford Motors (to name a few) have been driving their trucks through some of these loopholes for decades. In 2020, 55 of the biggest US corporations paid a total of $0 in federal taxes, despite grossing billions of dollars.
In 2022, President Biden filled the loopholes, essentially putting up a toll booth, when he signed a law setting a minimum tax of 15% of corporate profits for billion-dollar businesses.
Unsurprisingly, these huge corporations, including AT&T and Duke Energy, won’t give up without a fight. Their lobbyists are doing all they can to keep those monster trucks barreling through every loophole they can find. Some utilities are threatening to raise customers’ prices to maintain billions of dollars in giveaways to shareholders.
Sign the petition and let the Biden administration know we support the 15% corporate profits minimum tax! Encourage them to continue to stand up to billion-dollar corporations and their lobbyists seeking to maintain egregious tax loopholes now.
A 15% corporate tax in 2021 could have raised $8.3 billion in taxes from Berkshire Hathaway, $2.7 billion from Amazon, $1.8 billion from Ford, and $1.5 billion from AT&T.
From these four companies alone, that’s $14.3 billion that could be invested back into local communities through programs such as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Head Start, the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), housing assistance, and many others.
As the rules on implementing the 15% corporate tax are being finalized, these high-powered lobbyists are turning up the pressure on Congress and the Administration to leave enormous gaps in the rules.
But we must not let huge corporations continue their scams on the American people.
We all need to pay our fair share to contribute to a decent quality of life for all citizens, to combat homelessness and food insecurity, and make quality early education, higher education, and health care accessible -- and that most definitely includes some of the richest corporations in the world.
Please sign the petition to go on record as supporting the 15% corporate profits minimum tax.
Thank you for taking action in support of your social justice values.
