Friend --
The Ventura County Board of Supervisors is set to gut policies
passed in 2020 to protect our climate and limit oil drilling and gas
fracking in the area.
In 2020, the Board of Supervisors passed several precedent-setting
climate protections including:
- The first health and safety buffer zone in the nation requiring
that no new oil wells be drilled within 1,500 feet of homes and 2,500
feet of schools.
- A ban of the flaring of excess fracked gas.
- A limit of diesel oil trucking by requiring the use of pipelines
whenever possible.
Unfortunately, oil companies led by Aera Energy have sued to stop
these policies from taking effect and, rather than fighting them in
court, the conservative majority on the Board of Supervisors is set to
announce a settlement with the oil companies.
How can I help? There's still time to make your
voice heard. Send an e-mail to the board expressing your opposition to
the dismantling of these vital policies. You can find sample e-mails
and more information at the link below. The e-mail submission deadline
is Monday, September 11th at 12:00 PM.
The Last Chance Alliance is also organizing a rally at the Ventura
County Government Center on Tuesday, September 12th at
10:30AM. If you would like to attend or find out more
information please RSVP at the link below.
