Hi John,
We still need your help to fund our UK-wide film and book tour, exposing the devastation to millions of lives caused by profiteering pharmaceutical companies.

We are up against some of the heavyweights in political lobbying. The pharmaceutical industry has a huge financial backing and the power that comes with it. If we are to stand a chance, we need as many people as possible to know about the enormous inequalities in our pharma system and to get behind our campaign to change it.

We need to raise £5,000 to give the film series ‘Two Worlds’ and book ‘Pharmanomics’, written by Global Justice Now director Nick Dearden, as much exposure as possible to help us win the argument for a fairer way of making medicines. This is an important time for our campaign ahead of crucial talks over a new pandemic treaty globally, as well as the UK general election next year. We still have some way to go to reach our target, so if you can please consider a donation.

I have some exciting news to share. Over the last months we’ve been busy working with incredible local film makers and award-winning director Peter Webber on producing a documentary film series featuring activists, patients, health workers and scientists from Liberia, South Africa, Kenya, India, Pakistan and Brazil.

The film series, Two Worlds, gives an insight to the stark reality of people affected by an increasingly unequal global pharmaceutical system, dominated by pharma corporations’ endless drive for ever bigger profits. It highlights an extreme injustice where a person’s right to healthcare is at the mercy of a few giant corporations feeding the pockets of shareholders in rich countries.

What’s more, our director Nick Dearden’s new book Pharmanomics – How Big Pharma Destroys Global Health is coming out soon. The book shows how big pharma’s focus on maximising short term financial returns is failing health systems across the globe. It offers tangible solutions to a fairer, safer system for all.

The film series and book are part of our campaign for a pharma system that puts lives before profits and we’re hoping will stress the urgency of what’s wrong with the current system and why we need fundamental change now.
This autumn we want to hold screenings and a book tour across the UK - for activists, allies, decision makers, media representatives, supporters and members of the public. By getting the word out there, and showing the dire straits of this broken system, we hope to get much needed backing for our campaign. But to have the greatest impact we need to raise at least £5,000. A donation from you of just £3 could help make this happen.

In the film series, George, a health worker from Liberia lambasts big pharma companies that ignored the deadly Ebola virus for decades because they saw no opportunity for profit. Sharing his experience of forgoing his own Covid-19 vaccine dose for a parent during the pandemic, Kenyan doctor Bill recalls the much-used slogan ‘we’re all in this together’ – and aptly asks the viewer – but are we?

The pandemic widely exposed an inequality that already existed. There is more awareness of the devastating impact of pharma monopolies than ever before and a chance to convince decision makers to back meaningful structural change. That’s why we got funding from the People’s Vaccine Alliance to produce these films. Now we need your help to get them out, to amplify the voices of people on the frontline featured in the film – and make sure their stories are told here in the UK and beyond. This is how your donation could help:
* Give the film as much exposure as possible. A donation of £3 could help us with covering costs to promote the film and screening events on social media and in local papers.

* Help everyone attend the screenings and book launch events. £8 could help up pay for activists' travel who might not otherwise be able to join events across the country.

* Create a dedicated website for the films, to help get media coverage and promote local screenings online. £15 could help get this set up.

* Hire venues for the film launch event in London, as well as local venues for the film and book tour across the country. A donation of £35 could help us to cover these costs.
