Hey John ,
Today is a huge marker for victims of gun violence and their families. As of now, it has been one year since the House passed H.R. 8—a bipartisan bill that requires background checks on ALL gun sales [[link removed]] . But in the year since the House acted, Senate leadership has willfully obstructed passage of similar legislation, which means no federal progress has been made in halting the gun violence epidemic.
In that year of blockage from Senate leadership, 40,000 people in the U.S. have been shot and killed.
This week, gun violence reform activists all over the country are engaging in online and on-the-ground actions to call on Senators to act on gun violence prevention measures. That’s because we have had enough.
Every day, 100 people in the U.S. are shot and killed. Almost 40,000 people in America die by guns every year.
Background checks have blocked more than 3.5 million gun sales to prohibited buyers .
Unfortunately, loopholes in the system let people who shouldn’t be able to have guns buy them without background checks. [[link removed]] Our laws need to be updated to reflect today’s world.
TAKE ACTION [[link removed]]
More than 90% of gun-owning households support universal background checks. And two-thirds of young people support stronger gun laws. It’s time for the Senate to do their jobs and reflect the needs of Americans.
Let your voice be heard today. Take 15 seconds to send an email to the Senate and let them know you support background checks. [[link removed]]
Thanks for being in this fight,
