Dear John,
I had a fulfilling August recess in Minnesota and the privilege of connecting
with constituents and traveling our amazing district. As House Members return
to Washington D.C. next week, I'm committed to representing the 7th District
effectively and advocating for the issues that matter most to our constituents.
We have no shortage of important legislation to pass, all of which share the
deadline of September 30: eleven appropriations bills and the Farm Bill. (The
House passed the Military Construction and Veterans Affairs appropriation and
the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reauthorization in July.) My staff
and I will be working tirelessly with our colleagues every day to pass the most
fiscally responsible bills that we can get through the democratic-controlled
Senate and White House. The American people trusted us with the majority of the
People’s House. It is our responsibility to show that we are capable of
governing without infighting, chaos, and uncertainty.
The United States has taken a significant step by formally requesting the
establishment of a bilateral dispute panel under the United
States–Mexico–Canada Agreement (USMCA). This is in response to Mexico's
Presidential Decree, which institutes a ban on the use of biotech corn in
various food products, including tortillas and animal feed. While Mexico argues
that this ban is necessary to protect health and the environment, this is
completely unfounded. Our primary concern is to ensure fair access to the
Mexican market. That’s why I have been pushing for stronger measures against
this unscientific ban ever since my direct conversation with United States
Trade Representative (USTR) Ambassador Tai, and I am grateful to see the
administration take action.
As always, please contact my office if there is anything we can help with.
Thank you for your continued support!
With gratitude,
