Folks,

I just wrapped up an August work period where I traveled all across Virginia. Sometimes called the “August Recess,” it’s a critical time for me to look ahead to the Senate’s final months in session and hear from Virginians about what they want Congress to work on.

My team and I made our way all the way from Northern Virginia, to Big Stone Gap, to Danville and back. I spent the time hearing from local business owners, manufacturers, farmers, elected officials, and even a high school basketball team.

We talked about our legislative priorities for the session, including broadband, affordable housing, green job creation, the upcoming elections in Virginia, and more.

There’s nothing I love more than talking to Virginians to hear about the things they want to see me address in Washington – my next steps are guided by your input – so these conversations are a crucial piece of the puzzle. That’s why I want to make sure you saw my survey I sent late last week, asking for you to share with me what you envision for the path ahead.

If you haven’t had a chance to share your top priorities with me for this next session of Congress, I’d really appreciate it if you took just a few minutes to let me know now.

Thank you for joining me on the road last month. I’m looking forward to making more progress on the things that matter most to you.

P.S. And by the way, do you want to know what I never heard in all my stops throughout Virginia? “I want the government to shut down.” I’m going to keep fighting to keep our government running and avoid another Republican shutdown debacle.
