Gov. Justice orders flags to half-staff on Monday, September 11 for Patriot Day and Heroes Day
In recognition of Patriot Day and Heroes Day, Gov. Jim Justice issued a proclamation ordering all United States and West Virginia flags at the Capitol Complex and all state-owned facilities be displayed at half-staff, from dawn to dusk, Monday, September 11, 2023.

Gov. Justice welcomes home WV Guard Operation Lone Star volunteers
Gov. Justice welcomed home soldiers and airmen of the West Virginia National Guard who volunteered to deploy to Texas in support of Operation Lone Star at Joint Forces Headquarters in Charleston.

More than 50 members of the WVNG deployed to assist the Texas Military Department, Texas Department of Public Safety, and additional law enforcement partners to detect, deter, and interdict transnational criminal activity including human smuggling/trafficking and the flow of illegal narcotics and drugs into the U.S. between official points of entry.
During the deployment, WVNG personnel encountered a total of 10,178 immigrants trying to cross into the United States outside official points of entry and assisted local and state authorities with their apprehension and transfer into custody.

Gov. Justice announces that West Virginia’s EMS workforce has grown by more than 600 over the past year following his Answer the Call initiative
Gov. Justice shared progress on his EMS WV: Answer the Call initiative which has addressed the state’s need for additional trained Emergency Medical Services (EMS) professionals.

In the past 12 months, the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources, Bureau for Public Health’s Office of Emergency Medical Services has reported a significant increase in EMS providers.

From August 2022 to August 2023, West Virginia has gained 40 Emergency Medical Responders, 465 Emergency Medical Technicians, 91 Advanced Emergency Medical Technicians, and 57 Paramedics.

In addition, testing for the National Registry Emergency Medical Technician has improved by as much as 21% for EMS instructors across the state.
