Hi John,
My name is Gale, and I’m a retired public interest lawyer, Working Families Party member, and volunteer leader living in North Carolina.
With three grown children and one grandchild, I want to build a better country for my family. So when the Working Families Party got involved in flipping two Senate seats in Georgia in January of 2021, I decided to go all in as a volunteer!
I’ve stayed with WFP because of what the party stands for — universal child care, affordable housing, a clean environment, and the ability for all working people to earn a living wage. (And because I enjoy helping elect inspiring progressive candidates to office!)
I’ve also stayed because of the respect and appreciation that the Working Families Party shows for its volunteers — including the opportunity to be involved as much or as little as we want. WFP offers great training and education for volunteers at every step. In June of 2022, I enrolled in WFP’s Campaign Camp — a series of free online trainings designed to provide supporters, volunteers, and campaign staff with the tools they need to win elections and continue fighting for the working class.
At Campaign Camp, I learned about so many behind-the-scenes details that I never knew, and I had a great time meeting other people in our WFP community. So this year, I decided to return as a volunteer Camp Counselor, to be able to experience it again, learn more, and to help put on another successful event!
During my time at Campaign Camp, my fellow campers and I learned about topics like fundraising, communications tactics, voter contact, and so much more from experienced activists, organizers, and campaigners.
Camp is open to anyone interested in learning about running a campaign. This includes organizers, activists, experienced candidates, and people considering a run for office. We even know of some participants who decided to run for office after attending!
Programs like WFP’s Campaign Camp are so valuable because they help train and grow grassroots leaders throughout the country who are fighting for what our communities need — and gets us closer to achieving our dream of building a multiracial populist movement. To date, more than 1,000 activists have attended a Campaign Camp training, with a majority of campers identifying as poor or working class and 42% of campers identifying as a person of color.
If you want to make sure we can keep growing our grassroots movement through these training sessions, will you make a donation to the Working Families Party today?
Your contribution will support future trainings like Campaign Camp so we can continue to elect more progressive candidates to office and build a country where working families can thrive, not just survive.
