Team,

This week, I wrote a letter to Chief Justice John Roberts to lodge an ethics complaint against Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito for violating a handful of principles of judicial ethics. These apparent violations of SCOTUS’ Statement of Ethics Principles and Practice – which all sitting justices claim to subscribe to – should not be ignored.

Before I break down what’s going on here, I’m asking if you’ll consider donating $5 to my re-election campaign today so I can continue my work to bring the Supreme Court in line with every other federal court in our country in terms of having a process for investigating ethics complaints.

We’ve all read the ProPublica story detailing the luxury travel and lodging Alito accepted from right-wing billionaires — one of whom had big business before the Court — and how Alito failed to disclose these gifts.

Alito and his billionaire buddies have continued to argue that Congress shouldn’t regulate the Supreme Court. But if the Court won’t create a process to enforce its own members’ ethical obligations, Congress needs to step in. Especially when the facts may reveal that Justice Alito was involved in a concerted campaign to block congressional action on a matter in which he has a personal stake. If that’s the case, this becomes deadly serious, and only proper fact-finding will tell.

The American people deserve prompt and trustworthy answers from the Court when it comes to ethical lapses.

The heart of any due process is a fair determination of the facts. I’m fighting to make sure the American people have the facts so they know if they’re getting a fair shake with this Supreme Court.

But the only way to ensure Supreme Court justices are held accountable for ethical violations moving forward is to pass my SCERT Act and create an enforceable code of ethics with investigations and determinations. Can you support me in this fight by pitching in what you can to my campaign today?
