Shocking new reporting this week from People For’s team at Right Wing Watch highlights a dangerous and growing trend of escalation among right-wing activists who are making threats of political violence – particularly in support of Trump, the trials he’s facing and his reelection campaign.

Former Arkansas governor and failed presidential candidate Mike Huckabee made a striking prediction on a recent episode of his Trinity Broadcasting Network show, warning that if former President Donald Trump fails to win the 2024 election because of his criminal indictments, “it is going to be the last American election that will be decided by ballots rather than bullets.”
In a healthy democratic system, it would be shocking for a major political leader to make such a threat. But apocalyptic rhetoric and threats of violence and civil war have become increasingly common among right-wing leaders and far-right activists.
Unfortunately, Huckabee isn’t alone in making such alarming statements. In just the past month, Right Wing Watch has reported on six other instances of right-wing extremists making similar threats, with even more threats reported throughout this year.
We cannot let our guard down and assume that simply because those involved in the January 6 insurrection have recently been indicted or jailed, the threat of political violence in the United States has gone away. Because as Right Wing Watch’s reporting demonstrates, there are a growing number of fanatics who will eagerly spread and inflame the same messages of division, fear, and hatred.
