Nurto, a 25-year-old mother of five from Somalia, has faced unimaginable challenges.

A year ago, Nurto and her family fled their home after the crippling drought left their once-thriving farming community in ruins. They embarked on a journey in search of a better life and safety, leaving behind the familiar comforts of their rural existence. "The drought came, and we had to leave. We spent days on the road looking for where we could get any assistance," Nurto recalled.

Late in her pregnancy, Nurto and her family finally arrived at the Baxnano obstetric care facility supported by UNFPA and funded thanks in part to your gifts. In the capable hands of midwives, Nurto found not just medical attention but also a guiding presence during her active labor.

Nurto and her babies

Nurto's journey took a joyous turn when she gave birth to healthy twin girls. Despite the challenges of a breech presentation, her midwife’s skillful care turned potential complications into a successful delivery.

The presence of the Baxnano facility made all the difference, preventing Nurto's delivery from becoming a dangerous and harrowing experience. This is the difference your humanitarian gifts are making.

So we’re asking: Will you make a gift to deliver lifesaving care to pregnant women escaping devastating drought conditions across Somalia? Most supporters are giving $60.

Donate $60 to support a midwife through three deliveries
Donate $100 to provide a midwife with lifesaving training
Donate another amount to make motherhood safe

Your support for the Baxnano facility is just one example of UNFPA’s commitment to improving the health and well-being of women and girls in Somalia. Through these programs and partnerships, we are working tirelessly to ensure that women like Nurto have access to the healthcare they need and deserve.

With gratitude in her heart, Nurto speaks highly of the care she received. "I am grateful to the midwife and UNFPA for the care and support they have given me," she says.

Nurto's story is one of resilience, community support, and the transformative power of accessible healthcare. Her determination to share her experience and uplift others exemplifies the strength of the human spirit, even in the face of adversity. As Nurto looks ahead to her twins' future, she does so with hope, gratitude, and the knowledge that she is part of a network of care that can change lives.

If you can, please consider making a humanitarian gift to reach more women like Nurto with the healthcare they need.

Thank you for not looking away when women, girls, and mothers like Nurto urgently need critical healthcare. Together, we can deliver a world where every childbirth is safe and wanted.
