Back-to-School Update
Friend,
With the new school year in full swing, two issues are top of mind for me this year - rising costs for families heading to purchase back to school supplies and our children's mental health.
Families are spending an average of $890 on back-to-school supplies- over $100 more than in 2020. Packing a backpack has never been more expensive. We must address the runaway inflation burdening Wisconsin families. I'm working to lower costs by stopping excessive spending in Washington.
Now that students have returned to school, I wanted to hear from you. Please take my survey below and join my email list.
Protecting Children's Mental Health Must Be a Priority
The numbers are concerning. 50% of lifetime mental health problems start before the age of 14. One in six children have been diagnosed with a mental health disorder. That's 5 children in every classroom. I’m focused on finding solutions to protect our children’s mental health.

We are seeing a rapid increase in the amount of time children and young adults use social media. Because of this, it is imperative we create a plan to address this problem. This Congress one of the bills I'm working on requires the Center for Mental Health Services to develop and disseminate a strategy to address the effects of new technologies, like social media, on children's mental health. We must have a plan to protect our children’s mental health. Learn more about my bill here.
As always, contact my office if you need assistance dealing with a federal agency or want to share your opinion on an issue.
